Troubleshooting

Picking a color does nothing

Pixel Drop needs Screen Recording permission to read the pixel under your cursor — macOS uses that permission for any on-screen sampling. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, enable Pixel Drop, then quit and reopen the app from the menu bar. Nothing is recorded or stored: the app reads a single pixel at the moment you click.

The color didn't reach my clipboard

Check the copy format in the Pixel Drop menu (HEX, RGB or HSL) — the value is copied in the selected format only. Clipboard managers that hold the pasteboard can also swallow the write; try pasting immediately after picking with the manager quit. Clicking any swatch in History re-copies that color.

The icon disappeared from the menu bar

A crowded menu bar hides items on notched displays, and apps like Bartender or Ice can conceal it. Temporarily hide other items, or ⌘-drag menu bar icons to reorder them. Pixel Drop has no Dock icon by design — if it isn't running, launch it from Applications.

Launch at login isn't sticking

Toggle it off and on in the Pixel Drop menu, then confirm the entry under System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions. If the app was launched from the Downloads folder or a disk image, move it to /Applications first — macOS won't reliably register a login item from a temporary location.

The ⌘/ shortcut doesn't fire

Another app may own that combination in the foreground — check System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts, and any per-app shortcuts. You can reassign the shortcut in the Pixel Drop menu. On first use macOS may also ask for Accessibility permission to observe the global key press; grant it under Privacy & Security → Accessibility.

Clearing history and resetting preferences

Open the Pixel Drop menu and choose Clear History to erase every stored color immediately. To reset all preferences, quit Pixel Drop and delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.greyinds.pixeldrop.plist, then reopen the app. Deleting Pixel Drop from Applications removes the app; deleting that file removes everything it ever stored.

Reporting a bug well

Include your macOS version, your Mac model, the Pixel Drop version, and what you did right before it went wrong. That's usually enough to reproduce it on the first try.
